Rally Obedience

Rally Obedience (Rally-O) is a relatively new dog performance sport that is rapidly increasing in popularity.  It incorporates elements of traditional obedience while allowing for unlimited communication between dog and handler and presenting new challenges each time.  Rally courses consist of obedience-type exercises (designated by signs) arranged in a unique pattern that is designed for each event by the judge.  Dog handler teams negotiate the rally course on their own without direction from the judge.

The Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) was the first organization to sponsor Rally trials in the United States.  APDT continues to offer titles at 3 levels of increasing difficulty, multi-level championship titles and national ranking awards.. The exercises can be modified for disabled dogs and/or handlers.  Although many of the exercises are similar, APDT Rally uses courses that are more difficult and slightly longer than AKC Rally, all exercises must be performed properly to qualify, and multiple commands are penalized.  In contrast, APDT allows petting and/or food rewards in the ring after completion of some exercises, has bonus exercises at each level, and, includes open and utility type exercises at higher levels.  APDT Rally trials feature a positive, and relaxed atmosphere, supportive of the teamwork between dog and handler.  Come learn about APDT Rally and give it a try.
